EXECUTIVE TEAM
Pat Gamble is President and Chief Executive Officer of Alaska Railroad Corporation. He retired as a four star General from the United States Air Force after a career as a fighter pilot, including a combat tour during Vietnam as a Forward Air Controller (FAC). He has 15 years of executive level leadership in business and government service including duty as the director of NATO operations and logistics, and director of United States Air Force air and space operations.
Gamble served as the top Air Force commander in the Pacific region and was responsible for operations, planning, and budgeting of fourteen military installations with 41,000 employees and 400 aircraft.
Joining the Alaska Railroad in 2001, he has made safety, employee quality of life, and business excellence his chief priorities.
Gamble has participated on boards such as the National Armed Services YMCA, United Way, local and state Chamber of Commerce, and has worked extensively with secondary and university education boards both in and out of state.
A member of the Corps of Cadets and a graduate of Texas A&M University in mathematics, Gamble earned his MBA at Auburn University.
He and his wife, Ailese, make their home in Anchorage. They have one son, Jeff, in Austin, Texas.
Jim Blasingame has been with the Alaska Railroad since 1968. He is currently the Executive Vice President, Corporate Affairs. He is responsible for all of the Railroad's Corporate activities and Human Resource management. He has over 38 years of management and leadership positions with the Alaska Railroad and six years with IBM. He was appointed Federal coordinator for the transfer of the Federally-owned Alaska Railroad to the State of Alaska which occurred in January 1985.
Blasingame also serves as Secretary to the Railroad Board of Directors, responsible for all corporate actions of the Board, coordination of the Board's responsibilities and scheduling of their meetings.
His civic activities include his involvement as a member of the governing Board for the Providence Alaska Health System, Board member of the Providence Alaska Foundation and Providence Children's Hospital. He also serves on the Board of the Anchorage Downtown Partnership.
Blasingame is originally from Florida, majoring in Business/Marketing at University of Miami and member of the University's Honorary Iron Arrow.
Ernie Piper is Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for the Alaska Railroad Corporation.
William G. O'Leary was named Vice-President, Finance and Chief Financial Officer of the Alaska Railroad in July 2001. He is responsible for the financial activities of the corporation as well as the human resource and supply management functions.
A Certified Public Accountant, O'Leary has worked in a variety of financial positions since 1988, including that of Controller of the Alaska International Airport System, the position he held before his current appointment.
A lifelong Alaskan, O'Leary holds a bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of Alaska - Fairbanks.
Steve has been with the Alaska Railroad since 1996, first as Senior Director of Freight Services and, since 2001, as Vice President with responsibility for Freight as well as Passenger marketing. Steve worked for ARCO, Alaska for ten years analyzing and negotiating freight and supply contracts with carriers and vendors on a local, national and international level. Prior to ARCO, he worked for J.B. Gottstein Co. (Carr-Gottstein Corporation) as a freight auditor and buyer responsible for inbound freight. Earlier, he ran a purchasing, warehousing and distribution operation on the North Slope in support of oil exploration.
Mr. Silverstein is a Certified Member of the American Society of Transportation and Logistics and was one of the founders of the Alaska Transportation Study Group, where he served as President for six years. He is a member of the board of directors for the Anchorage Concert Association, Anchorage Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Alaska Center for the Performing Arts as well as the Alaska Roundtable of the Council of Logistics Management. He has been a resident of Alaska since 1979.
Steve was born in Cleveland, Ohio and attended the University of Rochester in New York.
Phyllis Johnson was named Vice President & General Counsel of the Alaska Railroad Corporation in June, 1991. In her position, she manages and directs the legal affairs of the corporation and oversees a five-person legal department. Johnson joined ARRC in May 1986 as a staff attorney specializing in real estate. Prior to her appointment, she was engaged in private law practice in Anchorage (from 1980 to 1986) and in North Carolina (from 1976 to 1979).
Johnson received a bachelor’s degree from Duke University in 1973 and a J.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1976.
She and her husband, Craig Tillery, have one child.
Jim Kubitz joined the Alaska Railroad Corporation in 1998 as Director of Project Planning and moved to VP of Real Estate six months later. A 45 year resident of Anchorage, he served on the Anchorage Municipal Assembly from 1986-1993. A graduate of Willamette University with a BA in Economics, he owned and operated a general contracting company, Kubitz Construction for 15 years. More recently, he owned Kubitz & Co. a commercial real brokerage firm in Anchorage. He still holds a Broker's License in the State of Alaska.
He has served on the Alaska Tourism Marketing Council, Anchorage Chamber of Commerce, Anchorage Convention & Visitors Bureau, and the Anchorage Economic Development Corporation.
Mr. Kubitz is married to Susan Urig, an attorney and they have four children, Maxwell, Alexander, Elizabeth and Grace.
Eileen Reilly joined the Alaska Railroad Corporation in January 1996 as Information Services Manager and was named Vice-President of the Alaska Railroad in 2001. She is responsible for overseeing a number of different departments including Information Technology, Signals and Telecommunications. Eileen worked as a System Engineer for IBM for ten years implementing data processing systems throughout the state of Alaska.
Reilly joined the Alaska Railroad Corporation to provide leadership in the process of using technology to achieve the corporate goals which include safety, customer service and efficient operations.
Reilly holds a bachelor's degree in Computer Science from Rutgers University. She has been a resident of Alaska since 1981.
Eileen and her husband, Matt have five children, Matt, Meghan, Michael, Kevin and Patricia. They make their home in Anchorage, Alaska.
